New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Godhan Nyay Yojana, Chhattisgarh government’s flagship welfare scheme for the rural people, while chairing the seventh meeting of the Niti Aayog governing council in Delhi on Sunday, an official press statement said.

“Prime Minister praised the Godhan Nyay Yojana in the seventh governing council meeting of Niti Aayog, saying that the scheme is in the interest of the farmers as vermin-compost prepared from cow dung helps in increasing the productivity of the land”, the press release issued by the Chhattisgarh government said.

Under the scheme, the state government procures cow dung from the livestock owners at Rs. 2 a kilo and hand them over to the women self-help groups (SHGs) to prepare vermin-compost.

The state government then sells the vermincompost to the farmers at subsidised prices with an objective to promote organic farming in the state. The scheme was launched two years ago. The state government has procured cow dung worth Rs. 68 crore so far to prepare vermin-compost.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel who attended the meeting, elaborated on the scheme and added that the state government has also started procuring cow urine to produce natural fertilisers, the press release said.
