THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has sent a notice to BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan in connection with the preliminary inquiry into the Rs 5.6-crore medical college recognition scam. He informed the vigilance that he would appear on August 21. A notice was also sent to Delhi-based power-broker Satish Nair asking him to appear on August 24. BJP leaders K. P. Sreesan and A. K. Nazeer, who conducted an internal probe into the scam, are likely to appear before the vigilance team on Tuesday.
A team led by SP K. Jayakumar of special investigation unit II is conducting the preliminary inquiry. The vigilance already got a copy of the BJP's internal enquiry report. A decision on quizzing BJP general secretary M. T. Ramesh was also likely to be taken in due course. Vigilance sources said the statement of Mr Nair would be crucial. They had already taken the statement of SR Medical College and Research Centre owner and Bharat Dharma Jana Sena leader R. Shaji who allegedly paid the bribe to BJP co-operative cell convener R. S. Vinod Though BJP leaders were initially reluctant to cooperate with the probe, they have now changed their stand. The vigilance probe was initiated based on a petition filed by former CPM councillor of Thiruvananthapuram corporation, A. J. Sukarno.
