Notice to Bengaluru cop for lapses during VIP movement

DCP (traffic east) Abhishek Goyal issued a show cause notice on why disciplinary action cannot be initiated against him.

BENGALURU: A show cause notice was issued to the K.R. Puram traffic police inspector for failing to manage the traffic during the movement of home minister’s convoy on Saturday evening.

DCP (traffic east) Abhishek Goyal issued a show cause notice on why disciplinary action cannot be initiated against him and directed to reply to the notice within a week's time.

According to the notice, Mahesh Kanakagiri , in charge of the K.R. Puram traffic was entrusted to manage the traffic and guide the pilot vehicle of the Home Minister, G Parameshwar, whose convoy was on his coming from Kolar via Hosakote and was passing through his jurisdiction on Saturday evening around 7.40 pm when the convoy passed through K R Puram between 7.50 pm and 8 pm.

Though Inspector Kanakagiri was informed well in advance, he did not attend duty and did not inform superiors, which led to traffic chaos. As it amounts to dereliction of duty, a show cause notice has been served under section 23 (a) of the Karnataka police Act. The official concerned would initiate suo-motu action if Kanakagiri failed to reply within seven days.

When DC contacted Kanakagiri he said, “I was very much present in my area and manning traffic. There was a miscommunication from control room which led to the confusion. I will reply to the notice at the earliest.”
