Indian Union Muslim League asks P K Kunhalikutty to step in

The party has asked Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty to conduct another round of talks with Mr Mani and other KC (M) leaders.

KOZHIKODE: The Indian Union Muslim League has adopted a ‘wait and watch’ policy on the exit of Kerala Congress (M) chairman K.M. Mani from the UDF and the party decision to sit in the legislature as a separate bloc. The IUML has directed all the leaders not to comment on the issue without consulting each other. The party has asked Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty to conduct another round of talks with Mr Mani and other KC (M) leaders.

Even now, the IUML leadership believes that Mr Mani is using pressure tactics and will not cross over to the LDF or the BJP. Mr Kunhalikutty told reporters in Malappuram that the political combinations of the state should not change at a time the BJP was posing a threat to the secular fabric of society. “Being a responsible political party, we will keep restraint over the issue,” he said and added that the party was exploring ways for another round of talks.

“He had promised me to discuss things after the party conference and we should talk with him on the final decision,” he added. If Mani continues his present political stand, we will oppose him, Mr Kunhalikkutty said. “We will come out with our official decision only after the UDF meet scheduled to be held on Wednesday,” he added.
