CM Pinarayi Vijayan frowns at arrogance of policemen

The Chief Minister warned that terror related activities were taking place in Kerala also.

KANNUR: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan continued his attack on police for the second consecutive day, stating in unambiguous terms that the government did not want a brutal force, but the ‘Janamaithri’ police. Speaking at the passing out parade of the fourth battalion of Kerala Armed Police in Mangattuparamba here on Sunday, he said law and order should not be maintained using the gun or cane.

“Law and order should not be maintained through threat or force. There might be situations that warrant the use of force. But the new government’s stand is that police should adopt a cooperative and participatory approach towards people,” he said in the presence of DPG Loknath Behera. The Chief Minister warned that terror related activities were taking place in Kerala also.

“We are dealing with issues including communalism. To have a perfect safety system public support is inevitable,” he reminded. Mr Vijayan said citizens’ charter had been publicised in all police stations. “Incidents like hitting the passenger took place in Kollam should be avoided. Cases should be proved through the scientific probe,” he said.

Mr Vijayan had slammed the police for its excesses at a function at Police Training Academy in Thrissur on Saturday. Of the 525 police personnel who passed out from here (KAP-275, MSP-250), there is an MTech among 62 postgraduates, two law graduates, eight BTech and 18 BEd besides 184 other degree holders.
