Kochi: Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan has asserted that though officials would be transferred or changed, the state government’s declared policy on evicting encroachers from government land will not change. Inaugurating the district-level title deed distribution at Thrikkakara community hall on Friday, he said that it was the state government’s responsibility to evict the encroachers which has been promised in the LDF election manifesto.
“Revenue officials are doing this job as representatives of the government. There is no need to misinterpret the action taken against any particular official. All officials are bound to follow the government policy,” he said. The government won’t support those who protect encroachers, he said and stressed the need for concerted efforts, regardless of political affiliation, to recover encroached land. “The government is going ahead with the steps to provide the recovered land to all the landless families,” he added.
305 title deeds distributed
As many as 907 title deeds were distributed in Ernakulam in the last six months and 21, 000 families were given title deeds in the state last year. More than two lakh people are yet to get the document and the government has taken steps in this regard. Instructions have been given to speed up the process of clearing applications for title deeds, he added.
The minister distributed 305 title deeds. Addressing the gathering, district collector Muhammad Y. Safirulla said that online transfer of registry (pokkuvaravu) facility will be introduced in 127 village offices in the district by August. MLAs P.T Thomas, Eldo Abraham, V.P Sajeendran and Antony John, district panchayat president Asha Sanil and officials also attended the function.
