Chikkamagaluru: Doctor in soup for record tubectomies
CHIKKAMAGALURU: Performing a high number of tubectomies in a short span of time proved costly for a gynaecologist earlier serving at Birur Government Hospital in Chikkamagaluru who would now face investigation by CID to find out if there was something murky in the episode.
As many as 1,450 tubectomy surgeries were performed by gynaecologist Dr Dayanand attached to Birur Government a couple of years ago. Such a high number of surgeries has landed him trouble even though sources at the DHO at Chikkamagaluru have not yet found any valid reason to nail Dr Dayanand.
“The surgeries performed by Dr Dayanand have not led to complaints from the public nor have any deaths occurred so far. The only thing he did was to perform a high number of surgeries in a short period which has led to suspicion that the doctor might be involved in something fishy,” said a source.
What might have made patients to approach him for surgery is the fact that there are no gynaecologists at Arasikere, Kadur, Tarikere and Hosadurga, all surrounding Birur. One reason for suspecting Dr Dayanand could be that Birur Government Hospital is not even a 50-bedded one leaving people wondering how a doctor could perform such a high number of surgeries in a short span of time. Questions have also been raised if he had followed the prescribed guidelines while conducting surgeries.
