GHMC ready to face monsoons
Hyderabad: With the monsoon finally hitting Kerala on Thursday and expected to reach the city in a week, the Directorate of Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) in GHMC said that it was ready for the rainy season.
EV&DM director N. Prakash Reddy showcased to the media the command control and monitoring centre to the media, assuring that the team was fully prepared to handle challenging situations during the monsoon.
He said the Disaster Response Force (DRF) consisted of 27 teams comprising 450 trained personnel who were equipped to handle disasters like urban floods, building collapse and tree falls.
They would also assist fire personnel during accidents and were strategically located for quick response. Additionally, 50 DRF personnel had undergone training with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at the Tenth Battalion in Vijayawada for three weeks.
Each DRF team is equipped with modern vehicles, a workforce of 5-6 individuals, and adequate machinery to address issues arising from heavy rains and strong winds.

4G LTE based Walkie Talkie Wireless and Base Sets are procured for better communication during emergencies for DRF teams and officers of GHMC.

Tools and equipment required for three new DRF to be formed is under procurement process.
It is proposed to establish mobile command control room to facilitate rapid strategic decision making involving all take over departments at disaster location.
