Chennai: GRP cops nab 2 murder accused

Based on an alert from Kerala police that the accused could try to escape to Bihar, Railway police tightened the vigil, the police said.

Chennai: Government Railway Police (GRP) thwarted the escape bid of two murder accused, who were connected with two different murders, and handed them over to concerned police stations, on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Naushad (35), who worked as a construction labourer at Vengara village in Malappuram district, Kerala, was staying with his wife Kodhal (32) and two children in the village. Naushad had allegedly stabbed Kodhal to death over a family dispute on Wednesday and escaped with his two children. Based on an alert from Kerala police that the accused could try to escape to Bihar, Railway police tightened the vigil, the police said.

“On Wednesday night, a police team led by inspector Thomas Jesudoss had searched Bihar-bound Dhanbad Express which reached Chennai Central from Kerala. The police found Naushad hiding in one of the general compartments. He was handed over to Malappuram police on Thursday. The rescued children were handed over to Childline volunteers,” the police added.

Similarly, an absconding murder accused was arrested when he tried to escape to his hometown in Odisha in the same train on Wednesday. The accused Biju Hembram (25) was working in a private company in Tiruppur and he allegedly had murdered his friend and a colleague, Santhosh Nayak, who was also from Odisha in a quarrel in April by throwing a boulder on his head. He was absconding since then.

The police found Biju Hembram hiding in the bathroom of a general compartment when the train reached Chennai Central. He was handed over to Tirupur police.

Meanwhile, ADGP Sylendra Babu inspected the security measures at suburban trains and enquired with passengers about their grievances, on Thursday. He also travelled in a local train from MMC to Gummidipoondi.
