Chennai schools reopen after scorching summer break

Other government schools also witnessed a rise in the number of admissions going up to 10-25 in most of the schools.

Chennai: After a two-month summer break, the roads were once again bustling with students running to reach their schools that reopened on Wednesday. The government schools across the city posed a new look with clean washrooms and drinking water facility.

The reopening of schools, which had bene put off for summer heat, turned out to be a boon for students as the mild showers experienced in the city on the last two days contributed to lower temperatures. The students were welcomed with sweets and plantain festoons. Notebook, uniforms, books and footwear were distributed to students on the first day in the government schools.

According to school administrators across the city, there has been a considerable rise in the number of admissions this year. Some teachers also say many students came in to register on the first day after seeing improved facilities.

“People came for admissions from the afternoon and on the reopening day alone we got 11 admissions. We are expecting more this week,” R.Krishnaveni, Headmaster of a government school in Nanganallur said. Other government schools also witnessed a rise in the number of admissions going up to 10-25 in most of the schools.
