Water crisis: Madhya Pradesh bans construction works
Bhopal: In an unprecedented move, authorities in a Madhya Pradesh district imposed “blanket” ban on all kinds of construction works in view of acute water crisis facing the region.
Betul district collector Gyaneshwar Patel issued the order in the wake of alert sounded by authorities concerned that the reservoir created with the help of a stop dam built over Machna river may supply water to the region hardly for two to three days. The water body has started drying up very fast owing to continuing heat wave in the region.
Betul with a population of one lakh people requires 13 lakh liter per day, but hardly seven lakh liters could be supplied to the population that to on alternative day.
Fearing law and order situation, the district collector has earlier imposed prohibitory order under section 144 banning assembling of more than five people at one place.
