Pothole death: BWSSB denies negligence
BENGALURU: The stretch of road leading to Ramaswamypalya on Kammanahalli Main Road, where a 45-year-old woman died on Monday, is a nightmare for motorists with huge craters and a pipeline work by BWSSB in progress. The deceased, Jolly Abraham, a school teacher, died after falling from a two-wheeler, which got stuck in a pothole.
The stretch from Empire Hotel to Ramaswamypalya is riddled with large potholes and the local authorities have now come up with a quick-fix solution by filling them with temporary patchwork.
Though the Banaswadi traffic police have booked case of negligence against BWSSB contractor and engineer in this regard for failing to restore the road following repairs, the BWSSB has stated that the accident had got nothing to do with their repair work.
In an official statement, the BWSSB has said, “BWSSB had not taken any repair work in Kammanahalli Main Road, Ramaswamy Palya on June 6. Kammanahalli Road (RS Palya) is an 80-feet Road and to avoid the overflow of sewage water during rains, the board has taken up repairs, replacement of sanitary pipeline on May 24. It had dug up portions of the road and it was restored after completion of the work…There is no relation between the accident took place (sic) and repair work done by the Board.”
Meanwhile DCP Traffic (East) C.K. Baba told this newspaper that the matter is under investigation and suitable action will be taken against those who had shown negligence in ensuring public safety.
The accident happened around 8 am while Jolly, along with her husband, was on her way to school. One of the tyres of the two-wheeler got stuck in a pothole on Kammanahalli Main Road and fell. She sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot.
