Kollam: When Satheesh Bino IPS takes charge as the new Kollam City Police Commissioner on Monday following the reshuffle in the department, the responsibility of law and order in the district will be in the hands of the young Police couple – Satheesh Bino and his wife Ajeetha Begum IPS, who is currently the Kollam Rural SP. It is the first time the district has a couple at the helm of the Police department.
Ajeetha Begum who had acquired a good image in the department in her short tenure was appointed as the Rural SP in the district during the recent Assembly elections. The UDF Government had taken action against Ms. Begum for taking stringent action against Congress leaders who attacked a Government official, when she was SP at Wayanad.
She was transferred to Thiruvananthapuram as the Police training college Principal and the move by the Government had kicked off a controversy then. Ajeetha Begum, hailing from Coimbatore, got selected to the Kashmir cadre and her first appointment was at Ramban district there.
She met her life partner Satheesh Bino, who is from Marthandam in Kanyakumari district, during their training days at the LBS National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Begum is the daughter of Coimbatore-based rice merchant Sulthan and homemaker mother Saboora.
Satheesh Bino who began his IPS career as ASP in Bhopal under the Madhya Pradesh cadre, is the son of fisheries scientist Dr. R. Sathyadas and homemaker mother Margaret.
“The transfer will make our life easy professionally too. Being the heads of two units under the same district, the administrative aspect will be easier as we share manpower and other resources between the units. This will help us tackle issues efficiently. Apart from that there will be unity in delivering the service as both of us are in the same district,” Ajeetha Begum told this newspaper.
The couple were brought under a single cadre of Kerala in 2012, after their marriage in 2011. Satheesh Bino, a B.Tech and MBA graduate, was serving as the Kottayam SP before his appointment in Kollam. The couple has a son, Arhan.
