Diesel vehicles ban: Car owners to move Supreme Court

The association named Car Owners Association for Rights was formed at a meeting held at IMA Hall here on Tuesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Car owners have formed an association to go to the Supreme Court to fight the green tribunal verdict of May 22 banning diesel vehicles which were on the road for more than 10 years. This was because all vehicles were given registration after the owners paid a road tax for 15 years.

The association named Car Owners Association for Rights was formed at a meeting held at IMA Hall here on Tuesday. Association General Secretary C Manoj Kumar said that the verdict would create a huge burden on the owners of diesel vehicles. However, the state government was taking a casual attitude towards the verdict that would affect over a lakh vehicle owners in the state, Mr Kumar said.

Car owners would be forced to start agitations if the government continued to go ahead with its apathetic attitude. The state government which collected huge amounts from vehicle owners as road tax was not taking steps to maintain roads using this amount. The money collected from road tax is diverted for other expenses of the state government, Mr Kumar said.
