Kochi: The city police has announced a series of actions against unauthorised recruiting agencies after a recent rise in complaints against fraudsters cheating job-seekers.
City police commissioner S. Surendran on Tuesday convened a meeting of them and private security agencies to make the process complaint-free.
In the meeting, overseas recruiters were directed to keep mandatory labour contract certified by the Indian diplomatic missions and also the clearance of the Protector of Emigrants.
They were also asked to inform the police in advance about the date and place of job interviews.
They should ensure the candidates receive jobs and remuneration they promise.
Mr Surendran said that no firm should hold more passports than authorised as per the license conditions and overcharge job aspirants.
Those having their headquarters in faraway places will be allowed to hold recruitment interviews only if they have authorised branches in Kochi. Sub-agencies will no longer be permitted, he said.
At the meeting of security agencies, the commissioner said that armed guards of banks, refilling of ATMs and escorting money transfer should have appropriate legal documents and no criminal background.
He said that uniforms looking like the police and armed forces are not permitted.
Mr Surendran also recommended the recruitment of ex-servicemen as private security guards.
Mandatory clearance certificates should be taken from the police stations concerned before recruitment.
The agencies should keep a register including all the details of the security guards like the address and contact numbers, the commissioner told the agencies.
