IPS officers in Sekhar Dossier' under scanner

His diary reveals several AIADMK biggies names.

Chennai: The Sekhar Reddy dossier prepared by the Income-Tax department is reported to contain the names of some senior IPS officials who received favours from the sand mining baron. The dossier, prepared after raids were conducted on Sekhar Reddy and associates soon after demonetisation has been handed over to the Tamil Nadu government and the police officers whose names figure in it may be embarrassed by the expose.

While the businesses run by Sekhar Reddy were first thought to have a nexus only with IAS officers and politicians - some of them are ministers in the Tamil Nadu cabinet — it is now emerging that he was in touch with several senior police officials in the course of running his sand business. His diary showed that some senior IPS officials had received favours from him, sources in the I-T department said.

The I-T department had raided the PWD sand contractor and former TTD board member, Sekhar Reddy and his associates in December last year and seized a total of '131 crore cash, including Rs 34 crore worth new notes of Rs 2000 besides 177 kg gold. The Enforcement Directorate and CBI registered separate cases against him and associates Srinivasulu and Prem Kumar. ED had attached all the Rs 34 crore worth new currency notes seized from him on Friday.

Income-Tax department sources said the Sekhar Reddy diary reveals his taking care of several ruling AIADMK bigwigs' pre-election expenses as well as funding the election campaign of the party. Apart from AIADMK ministers, leaders of some smaller political outfits which had declared support for AIADMK before the 2016 assembly elections in the state, too figure in the list of people who took favours or cash from Reddy.

Reddy reportedly also funded the election campaign of ministers. The income-tax department has collected details of distribution of money by Sekhar Reddy to the tune of more than Rs 300 crore. “Sekhar Reddy had collected signatures in his diary from all the people to whom he had given money. The entire dossier, with all evidences collected, had been handed over to the TN government,” I-T sources said.
