Jude Anthany Joseph distorted facts: Mayor Soumini Jain
Kochi: Defending her complaint against filmmaker Jude Anthany, Mayor Soumini Jain said that the director had distorted facts in his Facebook post. Ms. Jain on Friday said in a Facebook post that using his creative writing and directorial talent, Mr. Anthony has twisted the entire episode – where the director asked her for permission to shoot in a particular park and was turned down - and tried to portray the victim as a hunter. “Everyone should know what actually happened. No truth can be covered through false campaigns,” she said. Following is Ms. Jain’s Facebook post.
“The filmmaker came to my office to request permission for film shooting at the recently renovated Subhash Bose Park. However, I rejected the request, based on the council’s decision not to provide the park for shooting. Later, he came with a minister’s recommendation. Since I can’t overrule the council decision I discussed the matter with the deputy Mayor and others and they seconded my stand. But, considering the novelty and social relevance of the film’s topic, I agreed to submit the request for the council’s approval in the next session. Though the Corporation is ready to provide any other park in the city for shooting, he did not concede. Suddenly, he shouted and threatened me and left the room.”
“Mr. Jude, though your short film on atrocities against women and children can give a positive message, the abusive language used against me does not give a good signal to society. You behaved rudely and openly challenged me only because I am a woman. Your body language clearly expressed your attitude towards women. I have decided to go ahead with the complaint as I represent thousands of women working in different sectors who are being insulted in public places and workplaces every day. It is an irony that a person who doesn’t even know how to behave decently to women is making a film on atrocities against women and children.
