Jishnu Pranoy death: Medical College Hospital denies move to discharge Mahija

The statement said Mahija had sought treatment for pain in the chest and the hip.

Thiruvananthapuram: There is no move to forcibly discharge Mahija, the mother of engineering student Jishnu Prannoy who committed suicide, and her brother Sreejith, from Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram where they have been admitted, according to a statement by M. Prasanna Kumar, MCH media co-ordinator on Friday. They would be discharged only after completing the course of treatment, the statement said. There was no pressure from the higher-ups to discharge her from the hospital and that the hospital has received instructions to provide specialist treatment to them, Mr Kumar said. The statement said Mahija had sought treatment for pain in the chest and the hip.

The MRI and CT scans conducted at the hospital suggested no serious issues and the doctors confirmed the same. She was shifted to the payward after examinations in the orthopedics and medicine departments. “The only problems she had were caused by her not taking proper food,” Mr Kumar said. “She is now taking liquid food on the instructions of the hospital superintendent. She is cooperating with the treatment.” Mr Sreejith was found to have no major health problem other than diabetics. The only issue noticed was because he was not taking proper food. Apart from the doctors of the surgery department, doctors of the medicine department also examined Mr Sreejith, Mr Kumar said.
