Jishnu Pranoy death: CPM blames it on others'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretariat on Friday justified police action against Jishnu’s mother, smells Congress-BJP conspiracy behind the incident. In a statement here, the CPM secretariat accused Congress and BJP of declaring a war against the LDF government using the shield of motherhood. There is a deliberate attempt to fan anti government emotions in the name of a mother who is undergoing pain and agony due to her son’s death.
The party said it was difficult to believe that the protest and tension created in front of DGP office on the occasion of diamond jubilee of first EMS Ministry was a coincidence. Prominent leaders of Congress and BJP were at the protest site besides a group of people who were not connected with Jishnu’s family. They arrived at the police headquarters after announcing indefinite agitation and had sought appointment to meet DGP. Though six persons belonging to the family were permitted to meet the DGP, they insisted that others should also be allowed to go in.
Some people present there tried to provoke the police which led to a commotion. Despite the provocation the police maintained its calm adhering to LDF policy of compassion towards the victims, which was amply clear from TV visuals. The women police constables tried to lift her. Later she was taken to hospital. None of the TV channels had aired the visuals of Mahija being dragged, pushed or shoved. However, following her complaint, the government decided to conduct a fair probe. In case of any lapse on the party of officials, strict action will be taken against them, the secretariat pointed out.
The CPM said Jishnu issue was not LDF government’s creation. He is the victim of the loot and wantonness of self-financing colleges which was allowed by A.K. Antony. He is now shedding crocodile tears. Soon after coming to power, the Pinarayi Vijayan government had taken a series of measures to rein in the managements of self financing colleges. Dr Dineshan Commission was constituted to study the functioning of the colleges, government decided to grant '10 lakh to Jishnu's family soon after the incident, T.P. Ramakrishnan had handed over the financial assistance after visiting their house. A special team has been constituted under ADGP to bring those responsible for the suicide to justice.
