Activist K M Shajahan's mother alleges foul play
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.M. Shajahan's mother Thankamma on Friday accused the chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan of settling scores with his son because of the stand taken in SNC Lavalin Case. Thankamma who threatened to sit on hunger fast before the jail said her son was arrested on the direction of the chief minister. "He is fighting the SNC Lavalin case against Pinarayi and this is retribution from his side," she said. She said Shajahan had only reached the police headquarters about 30 minutes after the protest began. Mahija and others accompanying her were packed off in a police vehicle. What happened later was political vendetta, she alleged.
The police had registered a case by invoking section 353 of IPC for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and 120(b) for criminal conspiracy. The police suspect that the five had a plan to stage a demonstration inside the police headquarters after entering along with Jishnu's family members. The accused, especially, Shajahan allegedly had a heated argument with assistant commissioner (Cantonment) K E Baiju while the police blocked them on Wednesday. Thankamma said while Jishnu's relatives were set free, despite being clear that Shahjahan had not come along with them, he was produced in the court along with them. He had gone to express solidarity with Mahija’s fight for justice.
She said Shajahan’s wife and two children would also sit in protest against the injustice. Meanwhile, SUCI has expressed strong resentment over the arrest of Shajar Khan who was agitating along with Jishnu’s mother. The chief minister’s justification of the police was cruel. The LDF government is protecting criminals linked with self financing private college managements. There was no evidence to suggest that SUCI leader had violated any law,” said Jaison Joseph SUCI state leader at a press conference here.
