CBI books 3 Air India staffers over royalty payment irregularities
Thiruvananthapuram: The CBI has registered a case against top officials of AI-SATS ground handling agency in connection with the alleged irregularities in paying ground handling royalty charges.
According to sources, the anti-corruption bureau of the CBI filed case against AI-SATS vice-president Binoy Jacob and two other senior officials at the CBI special court in Thiruvananthapuram. The charges levelled against the accused included criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code.
The city police had recently registered a case against Mr Jacob for allegedly faking a sexual petition by women against an Air- India employee L S Sibu who blew the whistle on the irregularities. Mr Jacob was also reportedly involved in a case in Delhi earlier.
The CBI on Wednesday served notices on various airlines to produce details of the payments made to AI-SATS for ground handling services at Thiruvananthapuram airport over these years. It had earlier recovered documents pertaining to the allegations from Airports Authority of India officials here. DC had earlier reported massive irregularities in royalty payment by the AI-SATS.
