Call to reinstate Rubber Board fund

The central government had cut Rs 30 crore from last year's budget and Rs 69 crore from this year's budget.

Kottayam: The National Federation of Rubber Producers Societies demanded that the central government take emergency measures to reinstate the fund for project and non project schemes to rescue the rubber board.

The central government had cut Rs 30 crore from last year’s budget and Rs 69 crore from this year’s budget. President of the federation Adv Suresh Koshy said that only Rs 132. 75 crore has been allotted in the central budget allocation for the board which is inadequate for its functioning.

He said that at least 90 percent of the regional offices and the field offices of the board in the state were facing the threat of closure after the recent order directing that rent allowances be cut by at least 50 per cent.

The federation has also demanded that rubber farmers and political parties come out against the functioning of the temporary chairman of the rubber board who is discharging the functions of the Chairman, secretary and the board members.
