Women piloting change
Chennai: Young, robust, energetic and any other cheering adjective would be apt to describe the two Tamil girls, who have been working as locomotive pilots in Chennai metro rail.
Strongly believing in the women empowerment policies, they say, ‘it’s not just policies of the govt that aids women empowerment, but majorly the support of family that ensures the prosperity of a girl child.’
Meet M. Amsaveni and A. Nalini, excited to share their views on making a better place for women. Chennai-based Amsaveni, who pursued a diploma in ECE, said, “I’ve been open to learning. Be it learning to ride the cycle in a week or undertaking the loco pilot training to learn the operations in a week, I was always interested.”
Their career growth can be strongly attributed to the supportive parents, who had brushed aside the prevailing taboos to climb the success ladder.
“I initially feared that my parents would not like my wish and applied to the recruitment without their knowledge. After clearing the first level, when I disclosed it to my parents, they were surprised and encouraging too,” said a jubilant Amsaveni
Nalini, who holds a diploma in ECE, a native of Meenampalayam, Coimbatore, says, “I am thankful to have an understanding father who supported me throughout. The fair sex needs more support, especially in rural areas, beams Nalini.
