Squabbling LDF lost right to government: Ramesh Chennithala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the LDF Government had lost its moral right to be in power after deep divisions within came to the fore. Also on the day, he called on Governor P. Sathasivam at Raj Bhavan seeking his intervention in the Law Academy Law College issue. At a press meet, he wondered if CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was an extra-constitutional authority to summon the Secretariat staff to AKG Centre and issue orders undermining the chief minister, as he did recently.
Chennithala's office informed this paper that on February 4, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had convned a meeting of 160 Secretariat officials who belonged to the pro-CPM organisation, Secretariat Employees Union to discuss about KAS. Mr Chennithala said it was the first time that the officials were threatened and asked who gave him the authority. “Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is there to decide on administrative matters," he reminded him. "The issues raised by government officials on implementing the Kerala Administrative Service is still dormant.”
He also alleged that day by day, the differences between leading LDF partners CPM and CPI on a host of issues are widening. They included Athirapally hydropower project, anti-Maoist raids, Right to Information Act, cabinet decisions and now, the Law Academy Law College issue which has set them on a slanging match. Meanwhile, a Raj Bhavan communique said the latest complaint of Mr Chennithala to Governor P. Sathasivam requesting him to direct the government to end the Academy impasse, had been forwarded to the chief minister and University of Kerala vice-chancellor for immediate consideration and appropriate action.
This is the second time Mr Chennithala petitioning the Governor on the issue. The complaint said it was improper to allow its principal to continue in office in the light of the inquiry ordered into her degrees, and the FIR lodged against her under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.Ms Nair is in the eye of a storm over harassment meted out to Dalit students.
