LDF plans stir on ration issue
THIRUVNANATHAPURAM: Ruling LDF will launch an agitation beginning from February 10 to protest against the denial of ration quota to the state. LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan said an intensive campaign will be carried out in all districts from February 10 to 15. It will culminate in a mass Raj Bhavan march on February 18. Mr Viswan said the crisis had been triggered by the Centre's flawed ration policy which was aimed at sabotaging the well established statutory rationing system in the state.
Both the previous Congress led UPA government and BJP government had created a serious situation denying food grains to the state. He said it was the UPA government which started the process of derailing the statutory rationing system which had been in place for decades by creating a divide between BPL and APL. The Modi government deprived statutory ration to the state in the name of implementing Food Security Act.
The LDF urged the Centre to immediately release the required food grains including rice and wheat to ensure problem free statutory ration system in the state. Viswan said the Raj Bhavan march was being organised to protest against the arrogant attitude of the Centre and to expose the UDF’s double standards on the ration issue.
