Kerala Law Academy row: LDF brass looks for ceasefire

Pannyan meets Kodiyeri to find solution to students stir.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI central secretariat member Pannyan Raveendran on Tuesday met CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to find a solution to Law Academy Law College student agitation which has entered 28th day. The meeting was held at the AKG Centre following a series of developments that took place during the day. Coming as it is on the eve of weekly Cabinet, the meeting between the two leaders has gained significance.

Both the parties are keen to find a solution to the agitation. With the agitation taking a new turn on Tuesday as ABVP activist threatened to take extreme step, the two parties are wary about the future of the stir. The LDF leaders believe that the BJP was making every attempt to take political advantage of the law academy agitation. "The meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere. We hope to find an amicable solution to the student agitation," Pannyan told DC after the meeting. He refuted the reports that differences between CPM and CPI had dented the image of LDF Government.

"We are two different parties. Obviously we have our own stand on issues. But that does not mean there is sharp division in LDF. In fact we are holding a massive joint agitation on the ration issue later this week," he said. CPM sources said various issues related to Law Academy were discussed during the meeting with the CPI leader. The Marxist leaders are also keen to end the strike which is bringing a bad name to the government. Moreover, they also want to prevent the BJP from taking political mileage from the strike.
