Kerala Law Academy row: K S Sabarinadhan may replace K Muraleedharan

Muraleedharan's health has deteriorated and he may be shifted to hospital today.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mr K. S. Sabarinadhan or Mr V.D. Satheeshan, MLAs, may take over the indefinite fast launched by Mr K. Muraleedharan, MLA, in front of Law Academy Law College. The health of Mr Muraleedharan has deteriorated and he may be shifted to hospital on Wednesday. Doctors who examined him on Tuesday found him weak as he has been on fast since February 2.

The KPCC has held discussions on who should replace Mr Muraleedharan. PCC president V.M. Sudheeran and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala have been visiting Mr Muraleedharan at the protest venue daily. However, leaders close to Mr Muraleedharan have alleged that the two senior leaders were more keen on addressing the media so as to hog the limelight. It is said that the NSS leadership wants to sabotage the protest as general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair is close to the college management.

Thiruvananthapuram-based Nair Congress leaders like V. S. Sivakumar and Palode Ravi have not been taking an active role in the strike. “The NSS leadership has directed its taluk union in Thiruvananthapuram to keep off the protest to lessen its impact. The KPCC may bring in Sabarinadhan to take over the fast,” said a senior Congress leader. But a section wants Mr Satheeshan or a leader of the city to continue the fast to enable the party to take credit for the success of the strike.
