Eco-friendly plan for Vytilla Mobility Hub 2nd phase

Focus will be given for facilities like parking and commuter facilities.

Kochi: The Rs 368-crore second phase development of the Vytilla Mobility Hub will be implemented in an eco-friendly manner by giving prominence to transportation needs and restricting constructions for commercial purposes. This was decided at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. “The space for commercial outlets will be restricted to minimum while focus will be given for facilities like parking, inter-modal transportation connectivity and commuter facilities among others. It has also decided to ensure lot of open spaces and to carry out the constructions in an eco-friendly manner,” said district collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla, who is also the Vytilla Mobility Hub Society Managing Director.

The meet discussed various funding options – the PPP model, AFD funding or availing loan from a consortium of public banks or KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) to implement the second phase. “The most viable mode will be used to fund the project. All directions included in the Detailed Project Report being prepared with the help of the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) will be implemented provided they are approved by the VMHS General Body,” he said. The Hub second phase works have already suffered a delay of over a year.
