IIT-Hyderabad scores on jobs

Nearly half of outgoing graduates, PGs get placements.

HYDERABAD: Companies based in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia seem to be interested in hiring IIT Hyderabad students going by the campus recruitments being held this academic year. In the first phase of recruitments, in December, 45 per cent of undergraduate and postgraduate students got job offers from both national and international companies.

Sixteen students got job offers from reputed firms such as Yahoo-Japan, Works App, Capital Dynamics, Rakuten and Murata Manufacturing, with pay packages in the range of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 38 lakh per annum. International companies are inclined to recruit more from the older IITs such as Bombay and Delhi, but this year they have also focused on the best among the newer lot of IITs.

According to Dr B.Venkatesham from the training and placements department of IIT-Hyderabad, 85 per cent of B.Tech students and 70 per cent of M.Tech students are likely to get placed with good pay packages this year. He is expecting a five per cent increase in hiring compared to last year. The highest pay package also witnessed a jump this year, from Rs 34 lakh to Rs 38 lakh per annum. The average salary went up from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh in the first phase of recruitments.

Of the 160 companies that registered for campus recruitments this year, 72 have completed all formalities. The others will visit the campus in the next phase, till May. Amazon, Benz, Wal-mart, Qualcomm, Pay-Pal, Bellingham, Striker, Eaton, and Honeywell are among the top firms that are looking for IIT-H students this year. Asked whether IIT-H had blacklisted any firms that failed to give jobs after hiring students, Mr Venkatesham said Hyderabad had not faced such problems.
