Entire villagers bid tearful adieu to ‘state victim’ farmer

Hyderabad: The villagers of Mengaram in Lingampet mandal of Kamareddy district on Tuesday bid a tearful adieu to Putta Anjaneyulu, a farmer who died by suicide in full public view on a cellphone tower on Monday.

Anjaneyulu had resorted to the extreme step to protest the meagre compensation of Rs 2,000 that he received for his agriculture land which was acquired by the government to construct a canal.

The farmer on Monday climbed the cellphone tower in the village on Monday to protest. Even as his family, locals and the police tried to dissuade him, he died by suicide.

TPCC IT cell chairman and Zaheerabad Parliamentary constituency in-charge Madanmohan Rao visited Mengaram and consoled the bereaved family members. He demanded suitable compensation for the victim’s family for land acquisition. He also handed over financial aid to the family.
