Students in Kerala donate Rs 25 lakh to Ockhi- affected people
ALAPPUZHA: Students of Brightl-and Discovery School here have raised Rs 25,000 for Cyclone Ockhi- affected people of district's coastal area. The cheque was handed over by the students themselves to district collector T.V. Anupama on Wednesday.
Usha Venkitesh, founder of the school, said that the students raise funds every year as part of charity initiative introduced by the school management. “The aim of the initiative is to make students aware on the need of giving. They donate a portion of their pocket money to the charity fund. It's a mandatory procedure as it compels them to reciprocate with the struggling section in the society. This year, we decided to use the fund thus collected for Cyclone Ockhi-affected people as it left a trail of destruction across the state as well as loss of valuable human lives," she said.
Principal Sudha Sony, teachers Ajitha Jayan and Ms. Jayanthi Anilkumar accompanied the students.
