Jayalalithaa's death: Cabinet hails leader of poor

Jayalalithaa rose to the stature of “Ammaâ€through a series of schemes directed at the welfare of the poor.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cabinet on Tuesday paid rich tributes to J Jayalalithaa recalling her unparalleled administrative skills and unflinching commitment to the welfare of the poorest of poor. The special cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan passed a resolution expressing deep condolences on Jayalalithaa's death. She launched various programmes for the welfare of the poor sections making her the undisputed leader of the Tamil people, it said.

Jayalalithaa rose to the stature of “Amma” through a series of schemes directed at the welfare of the poor. She was known for her unique administrative skills and innovative programmes. Despite facing enormous challenges at the personal level, political and administrative spheres during various phases of her life, she turned these hostile factors into advantage because of her sheer will power. She was an extraordinary personality. Her contribution to strengthen the federal system of the country and her stand in defence of the rights of states would always be remembered.

Jayalalithaa had a special place for Malayalis and she maintained cordial relations with Kerala earning an indelible place in the hearts of Malayalis. Her death is not only a big loss to the Tamil people but also the entire country. It is an irreparable loss for Kerala and its people. We have not had many leaders who proved their mettle both in the field of art and politics. The manner in which Jayalalithaa took up the challenge and fought all odds to come up in a male dominated Indian politics, is inspiring. Her efforts to build friendship between the people of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are exemplary. Cabinet expresses its deep condolence on the death of Jayalalithaa.
