Focus on Covid hurting academic interests, says Gandhi JUDA
Hyderabad: Junior doctors in Gandhi Hospital, who have been demanding that the authorities immediately restart all medical services and allow non-Covid-19 patients to arrive for treatment at the institution, on Friday held a demonstration outside the hospital building reiterating their demand.
The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) of the hospital said even as its members want to save their academics and gain irreplaceable experience by treating patients with different health issues, the continuing focus on treating only Covid-19 cases at the hospital was hurting them academically.
It may be recalled that the association had threatened to strike work from November 1 in support of its demands but put off the stir for 10 days following an assurance from health minister Etala Rajendar that all non-Covid-19 services would be started soon.
Dr Shashidhar Reddy, JUDA president for Gandhi Hospital, said that junior doctors desperately need to get the experience of treating non-Covid-19 patients. “Even if surgical rooms need that have been shut for the past seven months need cleaning up and some repairs, restarting the out-patient department for non-Covid-19 patients requires only cleaning up and fumigation of those facilities. We were hoping that at least these services would begin from November 15 but that appears unlikely,” he said.
The demonstration was held by doctors who were not on duty and no services were impacted, he said.
