Hyderabad: Truck crushes ASI to death

The ASI, C. Bhujanga Reddy, 52, posted at the Amberpet police training centre, was driving his scooter when a speeding truck hit him.

Hyderabad: An Armed Reserve assistant sub inspector was killed on the spot in a road mishap at Panjagutta early on Sunday. The ASI, C. Bhujanga Reddy, 52, posted at the Amberpet police training centre, was driving his scooter when a speeding truck hit him.

Though the truck driver tried to escape, the police nabbed him along with his vehicle. The negligence of the driver caused the accident, Panjagutta police said. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

The mishap occurred at around 4.30 am near NIMS when the ASI was going home. Due to Metro work, there was a traffic diversion and the road was converted into one-way after midnight. “The speeding truck rammed his scooter. He fell down on the road and suffered serious head injuries. The truck driver stopped and tried to run away,” said Panjagutta inspector S. Mohan Kumar.

The victim died within a few minutes. The ASI’s relatives said he was coming to his home in Uppal as it was a Sunday. “He was undergoing training at Yousufguda since some days. Since it was a Sunday he wanted to visit his home,” said a relative.

The truck carrying scrap paper was going to Kukatpally. Police is checking whether the driver, Jayaprakash, was drunk while driving the vehicle.
Police booked a case against him under Section 304A for causing death through negligence.

As per police records, most victims of road mishaps in the state are two-wheeler riders. Most of the deaths (98%) in two-wheeler accidents are due to head injuries as the victims do not wear helmets.
