Five arrested for tiger poaching

The accused were involved in disposal of tiger remains and extraction of skin and fat from the tiger

Hyderabad: The Mulugu forest officials on Wednesday apprehended five persons belonging to Guttikoya tribe from Lingala village, in connection with the tiger poaching case in Tadvai forests. It might be recalled that the mortal remains of a tiger were seized by officials of the forest department on Sunday.

The accused were involved in disposal of tiger remains and extraction of skin and fat from the tiger. They were arrested and snares, knives and axes used for catching the tiger, along with the remains of the tiger, were recovered. A wildlife offense case is registered and the accused will be presented before a magistrate for remand.

An anonymous caller provided a tipoff about the accused to the forest range officer (FRO), Lingala, who spoke about the possible whereabouts of some Guttikoya tribals who were involved in the tiger poaching. Following the information, officials conducted a cordon and search operation on Tuesday night in Lingala hamlet.

The operation was conducted by forest and police officials and sniffer dogs and investigation was under progress, said officials.
