CPM plans counter-campaign
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM has decided to go on a nationwide campaign from October 9 to counter the BJP-RSS campaign portraying Kerala as the killing fields and their protest marches targeting party offices. The CPM central leadership says the BJP-RSS combine is trying to play victim of political violence. They are actually responsible for the killings of scores of party workers in Kerala, and this side of the story needs to be told to the people elsewhere in the country.
During the campaign being held at district headquarters, the party plans to put up posters bearing pictures of party workers killed in the BJP-RSS attacks, distribute booklets and pamphlets, hold exhibitions, street corner meetings and street theatre to expose the fascist designs.
Besides party workers, the party is trying to rope in people from different walks of life including writers, artists, social activists, civil society and cultural leaders for the anti-fascist gatherings. The idea is to mobilise public opinion against the BJP-RSS move to target the Left, secular and democratic forces in the country. The party believes that the RSS-BJP demonstrations in front of the CPM central committee till October 16 was unprecedented and reflected a fascist mindset. It says the BJP has failed to make much dent into the state and that has led to frustration among RSS-BJP top brass.
Meanwhile, the CPM state secretariat which met in Kozhikode on Friday decided to organise a series of programmes to counter BJP Janaraksha Yatra as part of the national campaign . CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told DC that protest meetings will be held at 13 district headquarters on October 9 barring Malappuram. A month-long campaign including discussion sessions, exhibitions, distribution of pamphlets and cultural programmes would be organised for one month from October 15 onwards. He said the party was focusing on Vengara bypoll and a state level rally will be planned later.
