Sushma saves the day again, paves way for 'Pakistani bride' to attend wedding

Seeing no headway in the process, the groom has reached out to External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter for help.

New Delhi: Living up to her reputation, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj yet again saved the day for a distraught couple, after it emerged that the mounting tension between India and Pakistan could play spoil sport for their wedding.

Jodhpur resident Naresh Tewani had earlier tweeted to the EAM seeking help as his Pakistani bride and her relatives were yet to get their visas for their wedding which is scheduled to take place next month.

Tewani and Karachi-based Priya Bachchani, who are planning to tie the knot exactly a month from now, are facing anxious moments as the Indian embassy in Pakistan has not granted visas to the bride's family and relatives.

According to the groom, despite having applied for visas in the prescribed time and format, no one from the bride's side has been issued the documents so far. Seeing no headway in the process, Tewani reached out to External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter for help.

"The applications for visas for the family of the bride were filed well in time about 3 months back. We assumed that the documents would be issued in time," said Tewani.

The groom's family says wedding preparations have come to a standstill as all their efforts are being directed towards ensuring that the bride's family gets the documents.

And as is her track record, Sushma reached out to the distraught Tewani saying “Please don’t worry. We will issue the visa.”

The statement has given renewed hopes for the family, especially his father who’s dream it was to have a daughter-in-law from the other side of the border.

"It was my long-cherished dream to have a Pakistani bride for my son since my visit to Pakistan in 2001, considering the resemblance in culture and traditions between the two countries," the patriarch explained.
