Tamil Nadu chief minister pledges his eyes
State government launches service to register citizens willing to donate their eyes
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday launched a website to promote eye donations, and immediately signed a pledge to give his own eyes. Health secretary J Radhakrishnan immediately took him on record and gave him a certificate.
Through the website – www.hmis.tn.gov.in/eye-donor – people can register as eye donors and download a certificate. The website was launched with a view to creating awareness of eye donation and educating the people on the procedure to be followed, an official press release said.
Through the eyes donated, corneal transplantation can be done of people with serious visual problems that require a transplant.
