AP state Cabinet accepts stampede report

The Commission was constituted on September 15, 2015, and given multiple extensions.

Vijayawada: The AP state Cabinet on Thursday accepted the Justice C.Y. Somayajulu Committee report.

The State government had appointed a one-man Commission headed by retired High Court Judge C.Y. Somayajulu, to inquire into the deaths due to the stampede at the inaugural of the Godavari Pushkarams in 2015.

As many as 27 persons died in the stampede. The Somayajulu Committee had collected all evidence and, after multiple hearings, submitted the report recently to the state government.

The report was placed before the Cabinet on Thursday. It is learnt that the Committee concluded that stampede took place as there was a heavy rush and everyone was in a hurry to take a holy dip at a particular auspicious muhurtham. The Cabinet also decided to table the Committee report in the state Assembly.
