Puducherry to take action against corruption

The government will conduct inquiry into alleged irregularities in various departments.

Puducherry: Puducherry government will not tolerate corruption, said Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy in the Assembly on Tuesday, replying to a special mention raised by AIADMK legislator Vaiyyapuri Manikandan.

The government will conduct inquiry into alleged irregularities in various departments. He informed the House that the administration will conduct an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the food and drug control department.

"I have already received several complaints about an official in the department that he is responsible for the closure of many industries in the state. Mr Manikandan even called me and said that a particular officer in the department is snatching away the files and official information from the department computer by opening the office on Satur-day, which was a holiday, he said.

Mr Narayanaswamy said he has directed the health secretary to initiate action.
"Each allegation will be inquired thoroughly," he said.

Replying to another special mention by AIADMK legislator party leader A Anbazhagn, the Chief Minister said Puducherry government would constitute an inquiry commission into the alleged corruption in the Pondicherry Agro Products and Civil Supplies Corporation (PAPSCO).

DMK legislator R Siva alleged that in several places the land acquired to construct ho-uses for tsunami affected were found returned and about 632 families yet to get the amount to construct the houses.

Admitting that complaints exist about several affected families not getting houses, Mr Narayanaswamy said the government will initiate action if found that the land acquired was returned.
