Kochi: A plus two student of a school in Muvattupuzha attempted suicide by pouring kerosene and setting herself ablaze, allegedly upset over her teacher scolding her and summoning her parents. A native of Vazhakulam, the girl has suffered serious burn injuries and her condition is stated to be critical. She is being treated in Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
“We've registered a case under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (punishment for cruelty to child) against the teacher after recording the statement of the girl today in the presence of Ettumanoor Magistrate and doctors,” a senior police officer said. Though the girl's mother initially said that the fire was accidental, the cops grew suspicious over the contradicting statements of her parents. “The girl’s statement could be recorded after the doctors gave us permission,” the officer said.
