Cam vigil against waste dumping in Kozhikode

Corporation takes cue from various resident associations in city

KOZHIKODE: Taking a cue from residents associations, the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation is planning to install CCTV night vision cameras across City limits in order to tackle indiscriminate waste dumping. Many wards in the Corporation have already installed cameras at various spots under the aegis of the ward committee and various residents associations in the ward. The civic body is planning to call for expressions of interest soon after the approval of the council.

Speaking to DC, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that many firms had already submitted proposals to install CCTV cameras free of cost in City limits. “We are discussing the proposals. We have to call for expressions of interest pending Council approval. After that we will in go for large scale implementation,” he said. “Since many resident associations have already installed on their own, it wouldn’t be a costly affair,” he added.

In Eranjippalam, the ward committee has already installed 10 cameras whereas in the nearby Thiruthiyad ward, four cameras were installed. “After the installation of the night vision camera, waste dumping has reduced drastically. We also caught a few people while dumping waste. We have also made arrangements for all committee members to get the visuals on their mobile phone,” said Thiruthiyad councillor T.V Lalithaprabha.

Plea to distribute cloth bags
