Weavers Yuddabheri' at Korutla on August 13 for MLA tickets

ADILABAD: Weavers community is organising a “Padmashalila Rajakeeya Yuddabheri” in Korutla on August 13 to mounting pressure on political parties to allot them tickets in the forthcoming assembly elections in Telangana in proportion to their population.

One of the event organisers Thadka Yadagiri of Nalgonda said Padmashalis constitute six per cent of the state’s population but they have no representation in the State Legislative Assembly. Only L. Ramana is their lone representative in the legislative council.

Yadagiri said the Padmashali community is in considerable numbers in 22 assembly constituencies of the state, where it can influence the election results. He maintained that their meeting is being organised on an apolitical basis. They want every political party to give them due representation. He welcomed the Congress party’s decision to give two MLA seats to BCs in each parliament constituency, though it is not equivalent to their due share of BCs’ population.

The Padmashali leader said other political parties should also make their stand clear on giving party tickets to BCs in the next elections.

Other leaders looking after arrangements at the meeting said political parties must give their Padmashali community at least 10 seats in the next elections.

Among those invited to the meeting are P.T. Usha, chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association, Singer Sanjeev Kumar, MPs from AP and Karnataka, three MLCs from AP, one MLC from Telangana, and former MLAs and MLCs.
