Rajan Gurukkal in Vice-chancellor search panel

The office of VC has been vacant for the last four months in Kannur University after the retirement of Dr M K Abdul Khader.

KANNUR: Kannur University has nominated former MG University Vice- chancellor Dr Rajan Gurukkal as the Syndicate representative in the search committee for the selection of the next Vice-chancellor. The decision to replace CPM Leader M Prakashan with the acclaimed academician came after Governor P Sathasivam rejected the earlier nomination. According to UGC norms, the University should nominate an academic expert in the three-member search committee which also includes the government's representative and UGC nominee.

The office of VC has been vacant for the last four months in Kannur University after the retirement of Dr M K Abdul Khader. At present MG University VC Dr Babu Sebastian is holding the additional charge of Kannur University. Earlier, the Governor also rejected Kalliaseri MLA T V Rajesh's name in the search committee for VC of the Sanskrit University. The government's and UGC nominees are yet to be decided. Usually the state government's nominee would be the Chief Secretary.

The Syndicate meeting held on Saturday also decided to revamp the curriculum and syllabus of the University with effect from the next academic year. Usually the revision of curriculum and syllabus comes after the reconstitution of the various Boards of Studies (BOS) every three years. However, this time the University decided to better prepare for the syllabus revamp. A expert committee will be formed in order to prepare the new changes.
