Ernakulam Government Medical College uplift plan to take off soon

The absorption of remaining staff into the government service is also under process and will be completed soon.

Kochi: Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr A. Remla Beevi said on Saturday that the Rs 1.1 crore contingency upliftment plan for the Ernakulam Government Medical College will be implemented this month after getting administrative sanction from the State Government. “We expect the sanction fast and the funds will come after that,” she told DC. “Some funds in other heads have already been released and Plan funds too will be released soon.”

The absorption of remaining staff into the government service is also under process and will be completed soon. She said more cardiologists can be posted there only after the government cleared the proposal for setting up a cardiology department. The staff of the medical college should develop a sense of belonging to the institution and should work hard selflessly, she said. “Only then can it come up and be a top institution.”

EMC principal Dr V.K. Sreekala said that the request with all specifications regarding the equipment and facilities required for the hospital was submitted to the DME following the sudden demise of MBBS student Shamna Tasnim. Students had alleged that the medico died because of the lack of facilities at the hospital.
