Attack on biker a disgrace to police: Pinarayi Vijayan

A total of 517 new personnel including drivers took part in the parade.

Thrissur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has described the attack by a civil police officer on a biker for not wearing the helmet in Kollam on Friday as an act of immaturity. Speaking at the passing out parade of newly inducted personnel at Ramavarmapuram Kerala Police Training Academy here on Saturday, he said such actions would defame the entire force.

“Fault of an individual will adversely affect the police force and the government as well. “Every act of violence on the part of police will defame it,” Mr Pinarayi said. “The aim of the police is to enforce the law in a democratic manner. Use of force and third degree is not a part of professional policing. “Humanity and efficiency need to be the face of police and crimes need to be dealt with in a scientific manner.”

He said the discipline imbibed during training need to be practised during the service as well, and the academy would be coming up with continuous training programmes. A total of 517 new personnel including drivers took part in the parade.
