CM Pinarayi Vijayan fumes over medical ordinance

The ordinance stipulated that the fee regulatory committee had 10 members, but it had only six.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state Cabinet has decided to re-issue the Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to Medical Educational Institutions) Ordinance 2017 with amendments after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expr-essed displeasure over the discrepancies in it. The ordinance stipulated that the fee regulatory committee had 10 members, but the committee the government appointed had only six members. Following this, the medical managements had approached the High Court to quash the fee structure pointing out the discrepancies in the structure of the committee.

The Cabinet also approved new names to committee, headed by Justice (retd) R. Rajendra Babu as per the provisions of ordinance. It will now have additional secretary-health, principal secretary-higher education, secretary-law, director of medical education and commissioner for entrance examinations (CEE) as official members. The other members are Joy Jacob Kulaveli (academician), S. Suresh Babu (chartered accountant), Dr Rani Nair (MCI representative) and Krishnan Karangad (SC/ST representative).
