Al Ameen Public School asked to readmit sixth standard student
Kochi: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed the Al Ameen Public School in Kochi to readmit a sixth standard student, expelled from the school for academic reasons, immediately. The Commission has also directed the school principal to appear before it and submit an explanation during the sitting scheduled to be held at Alua Guest House on July 17.
The right to education was a Constitutional right and the increasing instances of such incidents was not a positive trend, said P Mohanadas the acting chairman of the Commission in the interim order. The law does not permit the school to expel a student on account of lack of academic merit, the Commission observed.
Apart from the school principal, the manager has also been asked to submit an explanation.
Mumtaz Hameed, mother of the child, submitted that the child had been suffering from physical ailments which impacted the academic performance. The Commission will take a final decision after hearing the complainant and the school principal and management. “It is shocking to learn that a sixth standard student has been forced to sit at home without going to school”, the Commission observed.
