ADILABAD: Spurious cotton seeds have arrived in bulk in the old Adilabad district as the Kharif season is drawing to a close. Police seized spurious seeds at various places during the raids on shops.
Illegal transportation of spurious cotton seeds is on the rise in interior villages despite the police trying their best to control the menace by forming task force teams.
The sale of spurious cotton seeds is high in the villages of Komaram Bheem Asifabad. Every day, police are seizing spurious seeds stocks at one or the other place and agriculture officials too are doing the seizures in the old Adilabad district.
Police said they have formed a special task force to control the menace and are conducting inspections of the seeds and fertilizer shops and verifying the quality of the soya and cotton seeds.
Ramagundam police commissioner V Satyanarayana is organising programmes to create awareness among the farmers as also traders of fertilizer and seeds shops against such sale.
The Adilabad police SP Rajesh Chandra formed police teams to check the sales. He has ordered an inquiry into a complaint lodged by farmer Venkat Yadav of Thantoli as regards the “sale of Soya seeds by altering the details on the packs.”
