Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary School panel to intensify protest
KOZHIKODE: After the Supreme Court on Monday rejected the appeal filed by the state government against the High Court verdict to close down Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary (AUP) School, the School Protection Committee has decided to fight and take the protest forward. The verdict announced was after the state Government approached the apex court challenging the High Court order on closure of the School.
According to the members of the School Protection committee, the closing of the institute would affect the future of the students and would deny their right to education. “If this school is closed, it will lead the way to close thousands of such schools in the State, thereby destroying the public education system here,” said Adv M Jaideep, the convener of the committee.
Pradeep Kumar MLA, who was in the frontline to protest against the High court order of closure of the school, pointed out that the verdict of the SC was the aftermath of the betrayal of the previous UDF Government here.
“The Education Minister has initiated a meeting before the day announced to close down the school on June 8”, he said. The committee on May 23 forcefully prevented the bid by assistant education officer (AEO) to execute the order, which had led to a scuffle between the police and protesters.
“A Pradeep Kumar MLA, who had spearheaded our campaign to protect the 140- year-old school, has assured us that he would fight till the school is saved from being closed down and the Chief Minister and Education Minister have assured that they will protect the school”, said Eravil Radhakrishnan, school faculty and member of the committee.
